I gain inspiration for my art from my surroundings – New Zealand history, classic arcades, calligraphy, typography and my experiences from travelling. I have dabbled in multiple mediums but find black ink and a stippling technique in my most recent work to be my favourite.

All of my work is hand drawn and scanned with minimal editing done to produce my prints and t-shirt designs. The reason for this is to try and keep the original design as much as possible as I believe there is beauty in imperfection.

I always try to draw stuff that is true to who I am.

The future looks bright for R! Art’s founder, creator, and all round superman, Rowan Oswald. A dedicated History teacher by day, and artist extraordinaire by night, this multi-talented guy not only juggles paperwork like a pro, he’s a dab hand at whipping up seriously cool graphic art too.

Inspired by New Zealand culture, and history, Rowans stylistic revision of classic typography, has come a long way from early student days where he would fashion artworks on recycled Xanita board for family members.

It might not be actual blood, sweat, and tears but when Rowan says he leaves a piece of himself in every artwork he creates, you are most definitely getting a little bit of the R! Art pie
